29th Season

AFC Bournemouth are back in the Championship after a five-year stay in the Premier League.

The Cherries were relegated to the English second tier despite having a couple of quality players on their books, including Callum Wilson.

The 28-year-old player is considered to be one of the best English strikers at the moment having cemented his place in the England national team in the last two years.

A quick striker with an eye for goals, Wilson became a feared marksman in the Premier League after he netted 14 goals in the competition during the 2018/19 campaign.

However, the Cherries struggled in the following campaign and he could only find the back of the net seven times having also struggled with injuries.

Wilson became the team's top scorer for that season (2014/15 - Championship) in the process, scoring 20 league goals.

On 22 August 2015, Wilson scored his first Premier League goals with a hat-trick against West Ham United and he remained a key player in the elite league.

The Coventry-born player made his international debut for England on 15 November when starting against the United States of America (USA) at Wembley Stadium.

Wilson scored in the 77th minute of a 3-0 win with a near-post finish and in doing so, he became the first Bournemouth player to score for England.

Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring Wilson's situation at Bournemouth where he still has three years left on his contract.

The Cherries will be hoping to retain his services as he has what it takes to inspire the team back to the Premier League by securing a top-two finish in the Championship next season.

Former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is a big fan of Wilson, who has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament twice in the last five years.

“He [Wilson] has been class for a long, long time," Allardyce was quoted as saying on HITC.

It’s two cruciates and people look at that and say do we spend that amount of money on somebody that has had a couple of (injuries to) cruciate ligaments.

“As a goal-scorer, he is proven. On the other side of that, his work rate and his hold up play is really good as well.”
