Turf Moor test for Manchester City

2019/20 Premier League

Round 15

3-5 December 2019

Manchester City will face a stern test of their credentials when they tackle hosts Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday 3 December 2019, kick-off at 23:15. The match is one of 10 spread from 3-5 December in the 15th round of the current Premier League season.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche

City come into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United this past weekend, a result which leaves the champions a whopping 11 points adrift of the pace set by league leaders Liverpool.

Manager Pep Guardiola insists his team is not suffering from a lack of confidence: “You have to see how the players run, how far, how they try and the body language. We never give up. The team is always there, that is my feeling,” said the Spaniard. “You [the media] analyse the result. Of course, it’s not good for us. It’s good for Newcastle.”

Burnley also enter this midweek clash on a low note, suffering a surprise 2-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace which saw them drop to 10th place on the log.

"I'm certainly not despondent with the performance,” said Burnley boss Sean Dyche, who will want to see better finishing from his team when they tackle City.

“We didn't find the key moments that we have been finding in the last couple of games but there was no lack of organisation or effort or commitment, it was just that they found the moments and we didn't.

"Arguably their keeper was man of the match for them and that is usually a sign that you have attempted to win the game.”

Man City forward Raheem Sterling

In head-to-head stats, Burnley and Man City have met in 84 previous matches. The Citizens have claimed 38 wins compared to 26 for the Clarets, while 20 games have been drawn.

City completed a league ‘double’ over Burnley last season, winning 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in October 2018 and 1-0 at Turf Moor in April 2019. The Clarets have not beaten the Citizens since March 2015.
