2020/21 FA Cup

Semi-Final

Leicester City v Southampton FC

Wembley Stadium
London, England
Sunday, 18 April April 2020
Kick-Off is at 20h30

Southampton FC will be determined to progress to the FA Cup final for the fifth time when they lock horns with Leicester City in a semi-final game on April 18.

The Saints have participated in four finals and they emerged victorious once which was in 1976 in what is considered to be one of the biggest shocks in the history of the final.

Southampton, who were the underdogs, won 1-0 against a much-fancied Manchester United, who had narrowly lost out on the English top-flight title.

The Saints had booked their place in the final after securing a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace in a semi-final game at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Southampton saw their two-match unbeaten run come to an end when they were thrashed 3-0 by West Bromwich Albion in a Premier League game on April 12.

They were scheduled to face Palace in a Premier League game on April 17, but the match was postponed due to their FA Cup semi-final game against Leicester.

The Saints are now focusing solely on their clash with Leicester as they look to go all the way and end their 45-year trophy drought.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Southampton manager, says they will have no chance against Leicester if they produce a poor performance on the day.

“We missed everything that is normally part of our game [against West Brom]. When you make it that easy for your opponent, it’s not a surprise you are 2-0 down,” Hasenhuttl said.

“We are all responsible for performances like this. If we play like this we have no chance on Sunday. This was a chance to get some self confidence ahead of the weekend – we didn’t take it.

“When the first duel was lost you could see we weren’t sharp enough to compete... Our best 25 minutes was at the start of the second-half but it wasn’t enough. We made changes but we were gone by that point.”

The last time Leicester and Southampton met in the FA Cup was on 05 January 2008.

Southampton ran out 2-0 winners over Leicester in the third round match which was played at the St Mary's Stadium.
