Resurgent Express to test KCCA title credentials

Wasswa Bbosa has managed to work some express magic by winning his first two Uganda Premier League games since returning as Express head coach at the start of this month.

He will however face his toughest test yet this weekend when the Red Eagles visit Lugogo to play KCCA on Saturday.

The two wins have lifted Express three places into 10th on the 16-team log after 1-0 and 2-1 wins over Onduparaka and Tooro respectively.

Like it has been for most of the season the front trio of Frank Kalanda, Disan Galiwango and Frank Senyondo played a key part in the victories with the latter scoring in both games.

Kalanda was also on the score sheet against Tooro with the goal taking his league tally to eight, one ahead of Senyondo who has scored seven goals thus far.

The attack has further been boosted by the mid-season signings of forward Baker Lukooya and Eric Kambale.

Wasswa again moved in with defenders Isa Lumu and Arthur Kiggundu with both starting the game against Tooro.

Cyrus Kibande also made a return having been side lined since last year with his presence already earning him the man of the match award against Tooro.

The three should help shore up a defence that has conceded 34 times in 22 games thus far if Express are to pick a first win at Lugogo since 2015 when they run out 3-0 winners during Bbosa’s first reign.

They will be up against a KCCA side that is not only a traditional rival but is also a team still harbouring hopes of retaining their league title.

They started the weekend on 45 points, five behind leaders Vipers with eight games left. Former Red Eagle Mike Mutyaba is their lead marksman having found the back of the net seven times.

He could start up front alongside Erisa Ssekisambu who was part of the 2012 Express team that won the club’s last league title.
