English Premier League
Midweek preview
The top seven in the
English Premier League are all in action on a jam-packed Wednesday evening that could potentially have huge impacts at both ends of the table.
SOUTHAMPTON VS FULHAM – ST MARYS
The first match-up of the night is a real relegation dogfight involving Southampton in 18
th and Fulham in 19
th place on the log respectively. There are seven points separating the pair, although that gap could be slashed to just four if Claudio Ranieri can mastermind an unlikely victory with Fulham. Southampton currently find themselves just one point adrift of safety behind Cardiff City.
The Saints will be eager to march back on to winning ways under Ralph Hasenhuttl after going the last four matches without victory. The Cottagers on the other hand have notched up just one win from their last eight matches in all competitions since the start of 2019.
Aleksander Mitrovic scored twice as Fulham came away 3-2 winners the last time the two teams met in the Premier League, ending a run of seven straight games without a win over Southampton. Fulham have not won away at Southampton since beating them 1-0 in the League Cup in September 1998.

ARSENAL VS BOURNEMOUTH – THE EMIRATES STADIUM
Arsenal eased back into the top four with their weekend win over Southampton, but their attention now turns to their midweek tie with another south-coast side. Bournemouth ended a two-match losing run last time out when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves.
In three Premier League meetings between the Gunners and the Cherries at the Emirates, the home side have walked away winners on each occasion including in the corresponding fixture last season when a Danny Welbeck double as well as a goal from Alexandre Lacazette inspired them to all three points.
CRYSTAL PALACE VS MAN UNITED – SELHURST PARK
The Eagles are flying high after their 4-1 win at Leicester City – a result that ultimately cost the Foxes boss Claude Puel his job. That was Crystal Palace’s fourth win from their last six outings in all competitions after Roy Hodgson’s side booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at Doncaster a week prior.
Man United were brought crashing back down to earth following their FA Cup heroics against Chelsea as they played out to a rather drab goalless stalemate against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday – just the second time the Red Devils have dropped top-flight points since Ole Gunner Solskjaer was appointed.
Crystal Palace have not won a league match against Manchester United since May 1991 although their 0-0 draw at the Theatre of Dreams earlier in the campaign ended a run of six successive defeats against them.
Nemanja Matic scored a thrilling 90
th minute winner the last time the sides met at Selhurst Park, completing a remarkable come-from-behind win for the visitors who found themselves two down just after half-time.
