Towards the end of each year, a number of awards are given to football players from a variety of different organizations from UEFA to FIFA. These awards range from best footballer of the year to the best goalkeeper and everything in between. Last year, not only did we get the regular annual awards, we also got World Cup awards following the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Below are the biggest awards in football and the players who secured them for 2018:
Ballon d’Or
The Ballon d’Or is arguably one of the most sought awards in all of football. The award was implemented in 1956 by French weekly magazine, France Football and celebrates the best player of the year.

Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year
The Professional Footballers’ Association is an organisation of footballers who play professionally in England and Wales. The association’s Player’s Player of the Year is awarded to the best player in English football for the year. The awarded is coveted within the English footballing community as it is recognition from peers within the game.
