Naomi Osaka will look to defend her US Open crown when the 2019 edition of the tournament is held at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City from 26 August to 8 September.
Osaka enjoyed her breakthrough grand slam tournament at last year’s US Open, coming through to shock Serena Williams in the final and secure her first major title.
The 21-year-old went on to win the Australian Open at the beginning of 2019 to underline her status as one of the leading players in the world, though she has since struggled to live up to those high standards.
Osaka fell out of the French Open in the third round and then suffered a shock first-round exit at Wimbledon at the hands of Yulia Putintseva.
However, a return to Flushing Meadows and the scene of a career-defining triumph should inspire the Japanese to lift her game.
The threats to her title include Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina and Williams, who will be looking to win her seventh US Open.
