The future of women’s tennis looks bright with several young players having risen through the ranks over the years. Today, many of the players below have begun to challenge and upset the game’s biggest names.

Although certainly not the only players who have a big future in women’s tennis, the five players below are definitely a select few you should be keeping an eye on.

In 2019, the 23-year-old when from strength to strength winning her first grand slam at the French Open in June. Following her win in France Barty became the number one ranked women’s tennis player in the world.

Naomi Osaka

At just 21, Naomi Osaka was ranked number 1 in the world after winning the US Open towards the end of last year and the Australian Open in January. Despite slipping down to number 2 with Ashleigh Barty taking the number 1 spot after her win at the French Open, Osaka’s future remains bright.
 

Simona Halep


Female tennis players to keep an eye on: Simona Halep

Simona Halep is not as young as some of the others on this list but the 27-year-old Romanian has been and continues to be a strong contender. Currently she has slipped to number 7 in the world after topping the women’s rankings in 2017. She has won one grand slam, the French Open in 2018, 6 ITF titles and a total of 18 WTA titles.
 

Eugenie Bouchard

The 25-year-old Canadian Eugenie Bouchard exploded onto the scene in 2014 securing the number 5 world ranking. Many commentators predicated a bright future for Bouchard with seemingly endless potential. However, the Canadian has had a tough run over the years slumping to 78 in the women’s world ranking in June 2019. However, Bouchard is definitely worth keeping an eye on as she gains experience and settles into a rhythm.
 

Garbiñe Muguruza


Female tennis players to keep an eye on: Garbiñe Muguruza

Having won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017 the Swiss-born Spaniard, Garbiñe Muguruza earned a number 1 ranking in September 2017. Although 2018 was a slow year and 2019 hasn’t been much better, the 25-year-old is still considered one to keep an eye on.
