Everton test their progress against Red Devils

2019/20 Premier League

Round 28

28 February – 1 March 2020

Everton will test their recent progress under manager Carlo Ancelotti when they host Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday 1 March 2020, kick-off at 17:00. The match is one of eight spread from 28 February to 1 March for the 28th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season, with two fixtures postponed due to the League Cup final between Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Manchester United forward Odion Ighalo

Everton’s five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end this past weekend when they were beaten 3-2 away at Arsenal.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti bemoaned his side’s poor defending in an otherwise good showing at the Gunners: “We are going in the right direction but you have to learn. The fact we were not focused defensively [means] we go home without points.”

Man United, meanwhile, gave their hopes of finishing in the top five a major boost with a 3-0 home win over Watford in which Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood found the back of the net.

“It was a very good win. That's two good wins and two clean sheets [in the league since the winter break], plus some goals to celebrate. I thought, in the first half, we started by gifting them some good opportunities but, gradually, we created more and more chances,” said manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“It's been a very good week, overall. We also got an away goal and score-draw in Europe so I'm very pleased with everyone after the good break we had. That was an important week in Marbella; building team spirit, camaraderie and some understanding between players. It's working. Now we want to kick on.”

Everton forward Richarlison

In head-to-head stats, Everton and Man United have met in 202 previous matches. The Red Devils have claimed 88 wins compared to 70 for the Toffees, while 44 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Old Trafford in December 2019, they played out a 1-1 draw: a Victor Lindelof own goal gave Everton the lead, before United hit back through Mason Greenwood.
