Contenders for LaLiga goal of the season so far

Following news that the 2019/20 Spanish LaLiga season could return next month, Betway has taken a look at the best goals of the campaign thus far.

Barcelona currently lead the way after 27 rounds of league fixtures, two points clear of second placed Real Madrid while just five points separate third placed Sevilla and seventh placed Valencia.

Here follows five contenders for the LaLiga goal of the season so far:

Aritz Aduriz

(Athletic Club vs FC Barcelona) - August 2019

The veteran forward has already announced that he intends to hang up his boots at the end of the current season and although he's only scored one goal through the course of the campaign, it will go down as one of his most memorable. On the opening day of the season, the 39-year-old emerged off the bench and produced an incredible acrobatic strike - on the volley - to sink the defending champions and send those who adore him at San Mamés Stadium into absolute delirium.

Arthur Melo

(FC Barcelona vs Villarreal CF) - September 2019

There is no shortage of long range scorchers in LaLiga, but this one makes our list for the sheer velocity at which it arrowed into the top corner. The Brazilian received the ball between the halfway line and goal, took a touch forward before unleashing a powerful right-footed shot which left the Villarreal shot-stopper rooted to the spot.

Iker Muniain

(Athletic Club vs RCD Espanyol) - October 2019

Goals have been few and far between for the Bilbao captain this season, but against Espanyol he gave a small glimpse of his class. Espanyol cleared a corner-kick straight to the Spanish winger and without a moments hesitation, he controlled the ball before thumping a dipping effort into the back of the net from outside the area.

Luis Suárez

(FC Barcelona vs RCD Mallorca) - December 2019

Even after watching this video on countless occasions, it is still difficult to figure out quite how Suarez flicked the ball into the back of the net. When the Uruguayan received the ball from Frenkie de Jong his body was pointing towards the corner flag, but without a moments hesitation he pulled of an audacious back-heel which flicked into the turf and into the back of the net. Difficult to describe and almost impossible to pull off.

Ante Budimir

(RCD Mallorca vs Valencia CF) - January 2020

It was going to take something special to exclude Barcelona with the only team goal on our list, but Mallorca's slick passing and Budimir's classy finish pip all those put together by the Catalan giants so far this season. A sequence of three rapid passes opened up space for Budimir inside the penalty area and after rounding his man with a neat bit of footwork the forward fired a left-footed shot into the corner of the net.
