Manchester City and Leicester City will meet in a potential
Premier League thriller at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 21 December 2019, kick-off at 20:30.
The match is one of nine spread over 21-22 December in the 18
th round of the current Premier League season, with Liverpool’s match away to West Ham United postponed due to the former’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Man City’s last home match in the Premier League brought a disappointing 2-1 loss at the hands of derby rivals Manchester United, with the team in light neither able to capitalise on their dominance of possession nor fix the defensive issues which have plagued them this season.
"We have to improve and accept it and move forward. Maybe we need to live that as a club to improve, to accept the reality now and improve,” said manager Pep Guardiola.
Leicester established a new club record of eight straight top-flight wins in their last away game, thumping Aston Villa 4-1 in Birmingham to further entrench themselves as the most likely challengers to Liverpool’s current dominance.

Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes are arguably a better team than the one which famously won the title in 2015/16 under Claudio Ranieri, though matches such as this one at champions Manchester City will be the true test of their mettle – especially as they look to take advantage of Liverpool’s absence.
In head-to-head stats, Manchester and Leicester have met in 81 previous matches. The Citizens have claimed 37 wins compared to 26 for the Foxes, while 18 games have been drawn.
The teams’ two Premier League meetings last season both produced home wins: Leicester triumphed 2-1 at the King Power Stadium in December 2018, while Manchester won the return game 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium in May 2019 thanks to a famous long-range strike from Vincent Kompany.
