Chelsea look to avoid a sticky situation against the Toffees

2019/20 Premier League

Round 16

7-9 December 2019

Chelsea will look to avoid an upset result when they tackle hosts Everton in an early-afternoon clash at Goodison Park on Saturday 7 December 2019, kick-off at 15:30. The match is one of 10 spread from 7-9 December in the 16th round of the current Premier League season.

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham

Chelsea shrugged aside their recent blip in form and returned to winning ways by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in midweek, with Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount netting the goals which ensured the Blues remain comfortably clear of fifth place.

"I am happy but I want more," said manager Frank Lampard. "We have had a pretty good start because most people probably expected us otherwise. But I want more all the time and I think that the last week has been a good example of that for us.

He added, “That shows me where we are to have a real potential to getting where we want to be, but also aware of the little tough bumps in the road."

Everton, meanwhile, have dropped into the relegation zone after they suffered a 5-2 loss away to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. The result has put even more pressure on manager Marco Silva, who could well be out of a job by the time the Toffees head down to London for this clash.

“I am not the right person to talk about this situation, different person than myself,” said the Everton manager. “Every game I will play and it will come the same questions after the match. For sure they have to do things on the pitch but words here will change nothing.”

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic

In head-to-head stats, Everton and Chelsea have met in 170 previous matches. The Blues have claimed 65 wins compared to 53 for the Toffees, while 52 games have been drawn.

Everton took four points off Chelsea in last season’s Premier League matches, drawing 0-0 at Stamford Bridge in November 2018 before a 2-0 win in the return game at Goodison Park in March 2019.
