Burnley look to take down Arsenal

2019/20 Premier League

Round 25

1-2 February 2020

Burnley will look to get a positive result when Arsenal visit Turf Moor on Sunday 2 February 2020, kick-off at 17:00. The match is one of 10 spread across the weekend of 1-2 February for the 25th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Burnley went out of the FA Cup this past weekend with a 2-1 loss to Norwich City, but more importantly they have turned around their form in the Premier League: back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Manchester United took them well clear of the relegation zone after a trying period where they looked to be slipping into danger.

Manager Sean Dyche made no apologies for viewing the FA Cup as a secondary concern: "But, in the grand scheme of things, it's just logic, the Premier League is so powerful, and our part in it is so important, that is still the focus, whether we won or not. It's not emotion, it's just facts.”

Arsenal have drawn three straight Premier League matches (most recently 2-2 away to Chelsea) but they come into the clash on the back of a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup this past Monday.

Manager Mikel Arteta played a young team in the clash against the Cherries and may be temped to keep some of that youthful zest in his line-up for the clash with Burnley: "I'm very pleased. I knew it was going to be a tough game and we played a really young squad. I wanted to see the reaction and I was very pleased because I saw a lot of things I really liked.”

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe

In head-to-head stats, Burnley and Arsenal have met in 108 previous matches. The Gunners have claimed 54 wins compared to 33 for the Clarets, while 21 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at the Emirates Stadium in London in August 2019, Arsenal claimed a 2-1 home win: Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for the Gunners, while Ashley Barnes netted a consolation for the visitors.
