Burnley look to claim Spurs’ scalp

2019/20 Premier League

Round 29

7-9 March 2020

Burnley will be on the hunt for the scalp of Tottenham Hotspur when the teams meet at Turf Moor on Saturday 7 March 2020, kick-off at 20:30. The match is one of 10 spread from 7 to 9 March for the 29th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho

Burnley come into the clash on the back of a 0-0 draw away to Newcastle United, a result which extends their unbeaten run in the Premier League to six matches.

“Four wins and two draws is not an easy run to put together in the Premier League, but we are often better than people think,” said manager Sean Dyche. “We are on 38 points and I'm always hungry for more. I have to remain balanced because are still a work in progress and there are no statements of grandeur.”

Tottenham, meanwhile, continued their recent stumble in form by losing 3-2 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a result which dents their hope of returning to European football next season.

"[Wolves] have the correct mentality and we were punished not just today but for quite a long time. We don't have that aggression. I think we are too good, I think we are too nice. That was the only thing that made a difference,” said Jose Mourinho, with the manager coming under fire for Spurs’ recent results.

In head-to-head stats, Burnley and Tottenham have met in 115 previous matches. The Clarets have claimed 41 wins compared to 47 for Spurs, while 27 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December 2019, Spurs claimed an emphatic 5-0 home win thanks to goals from Harry Kane (two), Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Moussa Sissoko.
