Betway Power’s Okello pleased with end of season reaction

The men’s National Basketball League regular season concludes for many teams this week.

Betway Power were however among the first teams to conclude their games and the manner in which they navigated what appeared to be a tricky end to the campaign pleased coach Boniface Okello.

“Hanging in there and bouncing back from the losses and the bans we suffered was really impressive,” Okello summed up the team’s end to the regular season.

This was after domestic basketball governing body Fuba initially handed front court pair of Phillip Ameny and Geoffrey Soro pair, 25 and 10-game suspensions following a fracas in the game against Warriors.

This led to the duo missing the team’s last five games despite the suspensions later being reduced to 21 and 30 and days respectively.

After suffering an 84-74 defeat to the Oilers, Power responded with four straight victories defeating Falcons, Ndejje and KIU Titans before wrapping up the season with a 90-51 rout of Sharing Saints.

“It has been a tough regular season but we need to improve on our performances. There are a lot of gaps,” stated Okello whose team haboured hopes of finishing the regular season as top seeds.

“We did not achieve all our major targets which among other things was finishing top,” added Okello of the team that has been beaten finalists in three of the six seasons City Oilers have claimed the league title.

Warriors play KIU Titans in the final men’s regular season game on Friday and while they can still match the Oilers their inferior head to head record will leave them as third seeds.
