Betway Power were among the biggest winners as the
National Basketball League second round tipped off over the weekend.
Needing to improve their seeding after a 7-4 record left them sixth at the end of the first round, Power put up perhaps their best performance of the season thus far to condemn UCU Canons to an 80-58 defeat
The loss was only the second UCU have suffered second this season having come into the game with a league best 10-1 sequence.
But were never allowed to get into their rhythm and never led again once Geoffrey Soro gave Power a 10-8 lead midway through the first period at the Lugogo Arena.
The centre finished with a game high 27 points and 11 rebounds for Power who took a commanding 44-26 lead at the half time break.
Libe Makala added 16, Samuel Agutu 12 and Syrus Kiviiri 11 as the three off-season recruits all flourished in the same game this season.
Isaiah Mabeny Ater led with 16 points for UCU who were seeking a regular season double after edging the first round game 71-68.
Power have now won six consecutive games to improve to 8-4.
Elsewhere, Kampala University (KU) and Our Saviour were further cast further adrift at the bottom of the league after damaging defeats at YMCA on Saturday evening.
The games had represented the two respective clubs with arguably their best opportunities of picking vital wins as they came against teams closest to them at the bottom of the 12-team log.
Instead, Our Saviour suffered an 83-72 defeat to KCCA to continue their search for a first victory 12 games this season.
Former winners Falcons who returned to the top division this season were also victorious, completing a regular season double over KU with an 81-74 result.
On Sunday, Warriors improved to a joint best 10-2 record after claiming an easy 72-41 victory over Ndejje University.
