The Championships, Wimbledon
1-14 July 2019
All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London
Ashleigh Barty will be the women’s player to watch when the 2019 Wimbledon Championships are held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London from 1-14 July.
The 23-year-old Australian underlined her class and composure by winning the 2019 French Open at Roland Garros, claiming her first Grand Slam title.
Barty dropped just two sets throughout the tournament and easily defeated Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the final.
She will hope to bring that form into Wimbledon, though she has never passed the third round at SW19 and exited the 2018 edition at that same stage after losing in straight sets to Daria Kasatkina.
Nonetheless, Barty has momentum on her side and will be confident of a strong showing in Wimbledon.
Should the Queensland-born player go all the way at The Championships, she will be the first Australian women’s singles winner since Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1980.
