2020 Formula 1 World Championship Season

The schedule for the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship season has been revealed and it is set to be the longest in the sport’s history.

Over the last decade, the Formula 1 season has got progressively longer. In 2010, the season was just 19 races long. In 2020, teams will compete over 22 races on tracks around the world from China to the United States and beyond.

The 2020 Formula 1 World Championship calendar begins with two pre-season test events in Barcelona on consecutive weekends between 19 and 29 February. The season then kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix on 15 March. The Australian GP has been the go to season opener since 2011.

Following the Australian GP, the F1 circus will shift focus to Asia starting in Bahrain on 22 March and then heading to Vietnam and China on 5 April and 19 April respectively.

The Vietnamese Grand Prix is the latest addition to the Formula 1 World Championship season. It will to be held on a circuit on Hanoi streets much like the Monaco Grand Prix. The deal to hold a F1 event in Vietnam is a part of a multi-year contract meaning the race will likely become a staple of the F1 season moving forward.

After a stint in Asia, the season will then shift to Europe starting in the Netherlands on 3 May and then on to Spain, Monaco, and Azerbaijan before making a quick stop in Canada on 14 June.

Teams then move back to Europe competing in the French GP on 28 June before moving on to Great Britain, Hungry, Belgium, and Italy. Although it is on the official 2020 calendar, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza is currently “subject to contract signature” and, as a result, has not yet been confirmed.

The final leg of the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship season will see teams compete in Singapore on 20 September before jetting off to Russia, Japan, the United States, Mexico City, Brazil and finally Abu Dhabi on 29 November to round out the season.
