Wundi advises as Power stay on course for sixth title

The National Basketball League Championship is finally down to two teams after Betway Power confirmed their place in the final with a 3-1 semifinal series triumph over JKL Dolphins on Sunday evening.

The results set up a final for Power who last won the title in 2011 against City Oilers, winners of the last five championships in what has long been touted as the “race for the sixth.”

Stephen Wundi who has impressed since moving to Betway Power from UCU Canons in the off season has already warned his teammates ahead of the third playoff finals meeting between the two sides.

“We need to be calm and maintain focus because playing against the Oilers some calls will against us,” warned Wundi whose former team UCU managed to run the Oilers closest before losing their playoff final  4-3 in 2015

Wundi was pivotal for Betway Power as they claimed an 85-72 game four win over JKL Dolphins to clinch the series.

The shooting guard exploded with 16 first half points on a night of 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc as Power made a 26-12 first quarter start.

“We are satisfied with the result because we have achieved our minimum target of reaching the finals,” Power’s Stephen Wundi observed.

“We played to our potential. We did not want to take the series to game five,” he added having scored 21 points.

Geoffrey Soro scored a game high 22 points on a night of 9 of 15 shooting from the field and Paul Odong added 12 for Power who held a 26 point lead midway through the third period.

But JKL led by Brian Namake 19 points and Makala Libe 14 threatened a comeback that yielded at 77-72 game three win.

A pair of free-throws cut the deficit to 10 with 4:23 in the fourth quarter for JKL who were in the semifinals for the first time. But Phillip Ameny scored five of his six points in the remaining period to ensure Power victory.
