Rugby action will not return until World Rugby are certain everyone involved in the game is safe.
The world governing body of the sport released a statement regarding all international rugby matches scheduled for the 2020 July window.
With most countries under lockdown at the moment, it is expected that there won’t be enough time for players to get back in shape and play, yet.
“The programme of international scheduled within the July 2020 window has been postponed due to ongoing government and health agency COVID-19 directives.” The statement reads in part.
“Extended travel and quarantine restrictions that apply to numerous countries, and concerns over adequate player preparation time, mean that any sort of cross-border international rugby competition cannot be hosted in July.
“Monitoring of the potential impact on the remaining 2020 international windows continues in collaboration with international rugby stakeholders and the respective authorities.”
The body intends to involve all parties, including member unions, international competitions, professional club competitions and International Rugby Players in the evaluation of potential contingency options with a view to achieving an aligned calendar for the remainder of the year.
The Uganda Rugby Cranes were supposed to face off with neighbours Kenya in the annual Elgon Cup in the month of July but this now is highly unlikely.
The two countries are still under lockdown. Uganda President recently revealed that sport will have to wait a little longer.
The lockdown also came toward the end of the local rugby season with Hima Cement Heathens in the lead, five points ahead of Betway Kobs.
