Winner Takes It All At Kitaka Sevens

This Saturday will mark six weeks since the start of the Guinness National Sevens Championship and there’s still no clear favorite for the overall title.
Betway Kobs, Toyota Buffaloes and Hima Cement Heathens all have a chance of claiming the championship. Kobs, hosts of the Kitaka Sevens, lead the log with 91 points, 2 ahead of second placed Buffaloes and 4 better than third placed Heathens. The Makerere Sevens circuit produced the shock of the season after Mongers defeated Kobs to win their first event this year. Mongers’ win and Kobs’ runner up position were just enough to move the defending champions back to the summit of the log, leapfrogging Buffaloes. Buffaloes and Heathens went into the Makerere Sevens seated in first and second place respectively but both couldn't make it past the quarterfinal stage.

With just one circuit left on the calendar, Buffaloes, Kobs and Heathens will all fancy their chances on Saturday. After five circuits of the season, Kobs have won two circuits while Buffaloes, Heathens and Mongers have managed one each. Kobs started the season with two trophies following their triumph at Kyadondo and in Jinja.
