2020/21 Premier League

29th Season

12 September 2020 – 23 May 2021

West Bromwich Albion are back in the English Premier League after a two-year absence from the competition.

Nicknamed the Baggies, West Brom were promoted to the elite league after finishing second in the 2019/20 English Championship.

The Baggies were one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888 which was the first professional football league in the world.

They have spent the majority of their existence in the top tier of English football, where they have played for 81 seasons as of May 2020.

Their longest continuous period in the top division spanned 24 years between 1949 and 1973.

However, from 1986 to 2002 the West Bromwich giants spent their longest ever spell out of the top division.

Jake Livermore, the West Brom captain, has hailed the Baggies fans for their role in the promotion success having helped the team finish second in the English second tier.

"We know what it meant to us as a club, not only to us as players," Livermore said.

"But those who work in and around the stadium, physios who might lose their job if it didn't go to plan, dinner staff, all of them. It meant so much to all of them.

"The players knew that and it's just relief. It's been a long ride. Obviously, the fans as well - they are here with us, we know they are," he added.

"Throughout the lockdown we've loved to interact with as many as we could and it was a real eye-opener of what it means at this football club and to this area.”

West Brom have been champions of England once, in 1919/20 campaign and have been runners-up twice.
