German international Timo Werner set the Bundesliga alight with his scintillating goalscoring exploits this past season.

Werner set a personal best by hitting the back of the net 28 times in the league for RB Leipzig in the 2019/20 season.

As a result, the 24-year-old marksman became the club’s record goalscorer, having found the back of the net 95 times in 159 competitive appearances.

Werner also equalled the record for the most away goals in a single season having netted 17 goals on the road.

Bundesliga legend Jupp Heynckes achieved this feat in the 1973/74 campaign and shared the Golden Boot away with Gerd Muller with both players having netted 30 goals.

Werner reflected on his four-year successful spell with Leipzig after their final league game of the season against Augsburg on 27 June 2020.

"Firstly, it makes me really happy that we won our final game of the season. we qualified for the Champions League and ended the season on a high," Werner said.

"The fact that I became Leipzig's record goalscorer makes me so proud, of course. It's been a wonderful four years here in Leipzig. I was accepted and have felt great here the entire time. That was also a reason for me being able to perform well.

"Another was the team. They were always behind me, even when it wasn't going so well and, during the week, I thanked my teammates for our time together and the friendships that I've made."

The highly-rated Werner, who recently joined English giants Chelsea, was the best player on the pitch as Leipzig secured a record 8-0 win at home to Mainz on 02 November 2019.

This was Leipzig's biggest win in the club's history thanks to Werner's world-class performance as he grabbed a hat-trick and also registered three assists on the day.

Werner matched Werder Bremen legend Claudio Pizarro’s record since detailed data collection began of having a hand in six goals in a single game according to the Bundesliga's official website.

Lastly, Werner became the youngest player to make 200 Bundesliga appearances at the age of 23 years, eight months and 18 days on 23 November 2019 against Cologne.

The former VfB Stuttgart striker has left Leipzig for the Blues having made 222 appearances in the Bundesliga which is a new record.
