The Yellow Submarine head into the tie on a six-game unbeaten run and in second spot on the league standings, having defeated Getafe 3-1 in their most recent outing.
Goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has stated that his team prepare differently for each opponent and that won't change as they take aim at the league champions.
"I think you are seeing a Villarreal that has a number of different ways to play and variables for each match," said Asenjo. "Every week the manager works looking at the opponent that we are going to face to prepare in a different way.
"It's not the same playing against Cadiz, who we knew were going to keep things tight and look for the counter-attack, then playing against Getafe who we knew were going to press us very high.
"We prepare for every game individually to find different solutions and against Real Madrid, we will try and prepare as well as we can to cause them as many problems as possible," he concluded.
Los Blancos fell to a 4-1 loss away to Valencia before the international break in a game in which Carlos Soler scored three penalties. Real had opened the scoring through Karim Benzema only to concede four unanswered goals which included an own goal from Raphael Varane.
"We can look for one thousand excuses and everyone can find any reason they want to explain this," said Real manager Zinedine Zidane in the aftermath.
"But we should not be looking for excuses, everyone in this squad is a Real Madrid player.
"We played well in the first half an hour but the game changed completely after they equalised. This has happened to us a number of times and I don't like it.
"We need to really analyse what is going wrong because any little thing can cause us lots of difficulties. Once we conceded the first goal we couldn't get back into the game. A lot of things went against us."

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 2-2 draw. Gerard Moreno and Moi Gomez handed Villarreal the lead on two occasions, but Gareth Bale's brace earned the visitors a hard fought point.
