Victorious Emong Returns With Gold

Uganda's 2016 Paralympic silver medalist David Emong has returned home with a gold medal round his neck.
He won the gold medal at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championship in London.
After racing from behind to run his personal best ever time of 3:58:36 and beat 2016 Olympic champion Samir Nouioua of Algeria, Emong returned to a hero's welcome at Entebbe International Airport Thursday afternoon.

On arrival, he made it clear that despite his heroics at the World Championships and the Olympics, he is yet to hit his target. "This is still the beginning. I know there is still a lot I can do," Emong revealed to the press on arrival. Emong won Uganda’s first Paralympics silver medal at Rio 2016 and replicated his heroics in London on Saturday. Emong is the only athlete who represented Uganda at the championships with his fellow teammates staying behind due to a lack of funds. Christine Akullo, Sam Mubajje and Al-Bashir Bwaga all didn't get the chance of taking part in the championship.
