The Uganda Cranes will inevitably take on a new look next year after Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) announced a new kit partner Umbro yesterday.
Fufa and Umbro South Africa announced a new four-year partnership which will involve dressing the Uganda Cranes ahead of the big engagements.
These include the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) finals in Cameroon next month as well as the subsequent qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and the Fifa World Cup.
“We are pleased to be partnering with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations and their affiliated teams”, said Umbro South Africa CEO David Ricketts in a statement.
“Umbro is passionate about the support of African football at all levels and we trust this partnership will transcend beyond kit sponsorship into a meaningful relationship for the team, our brand, and the broader African football community.”
The partnership will also see Umbro supply Cranes’ junior sides the Hippos (U23) and the Cubs (U17) who have since become busy with continental engagements.
Women’s national teams will also receive match kit, training and off field apparel. The partnership implies that Uganda becomes the eighth African nations to don the double diamond.
There are also 34 clubs in Africa which wear Umbro kits including Ugandan side Express Football Club, whose main sponsors are Betway.
“Our vision is to become the number one football nation in Africa, on and off the field. Fufa is always looking at creating new partnerships with strong brands. It was therefore simple to choose Umbro,” remarked Fufa president Moses Magogo.
“The continual improvement of the Uganda national football teams has left fans yearning for more and I am confident that the new kits will excite fans much more. The designs are matching the latest global trends and we look forward to unveiling these kits within the new year,” added Magogo.
The Cranes were previously dressed by Italian kit manufacturer Mafro, since 2018.
