Ugandan pro Kasozi targets at Zambia Open

Phillip Kasozi insists he cannot beat himself over the failure to make the cut on his PGA European Tour debut at the Kenya Open two weeks ago.

The Ugandan player believes the misfire at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi from March 14-17 is only part of his growth in the murky waters of pro golf.

“I made one bad decision at Karen and that was it,” he told this site in a recent interview.

Now Kasozi is not backing down. He recently flew south to partake in the Zambia Open on the Sunshine Tour this weekend.

He will be the only Ugandan who will tee-off at the par-72 Nkana Golf Club on Thursday alongside American Kyle Baker and South African Thanda Mavundla in the race for the prize money totaling to 2.5m Rands (Shs635m).

Kasozi however arrived late in Kitwe and missed the practice round. “Without much time, I walked through the course to see the pin placements and we will see how it goes,” said the man who turned pro in 2015.

This will be his second straight appearance at this Sunshine Tour event. Last year, he opened with rounds of three-under 69 and level-par 72 hence making the cut.

He then finished tied in 35th position with Englishman Luke Joy, Zimbabwean Dayne Moore and South African Andrew van der Knaap on an aggregate total of 292 gross after four rounds.

“I will always go for it. You only get better by trying here. If you get stuck, you borrow and go play. But I will risk until I get that $1m in one day. The journey continues here (Zambia),” he added.
