Uganda turns to Ghanaian in 2026 World Cup build-up

Since the Uganda Cranes earned a place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, local federation president Moses Magogo has consistently echoed the country’s plan to feature at the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

The target to be in the Americas is one the Fufa boss believes will have earned the nation a thorough transition of football.

Magogo’s grand plan is to use the current U-17 national side as the pivot to deliver the country at the grand stage in seven years’ time.

The deliberate effort towards this has been witnessed after Fufa announced the hiring of Ghanaian Samuel Kwesi Fabin Paa as the new U-17 and U-20 national coach.

Experienced Paa takes over the Cubs who will be featuring at the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations for the first time in Tanzania next month.

“I am here for a mission,” Paa stated after being unveiled. “First, I want to guide the Uganda U-17 team at the Afcon finals. The time is very short but I will give it all my best shot. The youth need patience to work with and develop to their best,” he said.

The tactician is an established figure having Ghana’s youngsters to the U17 Afcon final two years ago in Gabon, also securing a place at the U17 World Cup that year in India.

Prior, he handled Ghana’s big names like Sulley Muntari, Dominic Addiah and Kwado Asamoah at youth level.

“I intend to invite some scouting friends in Europe to come and see Ugandan players because we have to open up Ugandan football to the world like it is in West Africa,” added the man who has coached top Ghana clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
