Uganda Sevens fail Hong Kong test

The Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens team failed to impress at the Hong Kong Sevens over the weekend.

Having left with only one target of earning core status in the HSBC series, the Cranes started with a 19-12 loss to Germany.

The loss to Germany should have left many somewhat impressed and hoping for better fortunes in the subsequent games.

Uganda had competed well until Germany closed out the game in the final minute to take the win.

There were two games on day one and Uganda's second game ended in a dismal 33-7 loss to Chile.

Day two action pitted the Cranes against lowly Cook Islands and not even their 29-24 victory could earn Tolbert Onyango's charges a quarter final berth.

Timothy Kisiga was the team's scorer against Germany as he crossed the chalk on two occasions while Michael Wokorach went over against Chile for Uganda's third try on day one.

Philip Wokorach, Michael Wokorach, Joseph Aredo and Byron Oketayot were on the scoresheet as the Cranes outclassed Cook Islands on day two for their only victory from the group games.

With the only slot on offer taken by Ireland, Uganda will now wait for another for another shot next year.

Betway Kobs was well represented at the event by Joseph Aredo, Pius Ogena, Ian Munyani and Adrian Kasito.
