Uganda v South Sudan
12 & 16 November 2020
Uganda are set to take on South Sudan in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The first game will be played in Kitende, Uganda on November 12 and South Sudan will then host the Cranes in Nairobi, Kenya on November 16.
The Cranes secured a 3-0 win over Eritrea in their last match which was the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup game in December 2019.
They are undefeated in their last 14 matches across all competitions having recorded two draws and 12 victories.
Their last defeat came against Senegal in July 2019 as they succumbed to a 1-0 loss at the 2019 AFCON finals.
Abdallah Mubiru, Uganda assistant coach, says they cannot afford to underestimate South Sudan ahead of their two clashes
“We can’t underrate our opponents because they have good players as well for example Tito Okello,” Mubiru told Kawowo Sports.
“He is talented and if we allow him space, he can create the moments and hurt us because he carries that threat."
Meanwhile, South Sudan managed to hold Cameroon's B team to a 0-0 draw in their last game which was a friendly match in October 2020.
As a result, the Bright Stars are winless in their last four matches across all competitions having registered two draws and two defeats.
The last time they tasted a victory was against Seychelles as they secured a 1-0 win in the 2022 AFCON qualifier in October 2019.
The last meeting between Uganda and South Sudan was on 8 December 2017.
The Cranes emerged 5-1 winners over the Bright Stars in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup match which was played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Kenya.
