Uganda Cranes set for pre-CHAN tourney

League football has only just returned in Uganda having been off since March.

The COVID-19 pandemic saw the previous season end prematurely and the new one only kicked off December 3rd.

The long break has certainly had an effect on the players who will need some time to get back to their best in competitive football.

With the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) tournament set for January 2021, the Uganda Cranes player will at least have some competitive action together before Cameroon.

The team will play in a tournament organised to happen just before the finals.

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) came out to confirm the event this week.

Cameroon, the Chan hosts, will be joined by the Cranes, Zambia and Niger.

The tournament is slated for January 1st to 7th in Yaoundé.

The Cranes team is expected to start CHAN preparations on December 20th with the Startimes Uganda Premier League coming to a halt.

Uganda are drawn in group C alongside Morocco, Rwanda and Togo.

Johnathan McKinstry's charges will take on neighbours Rwanda in their first match of at the finals.

The Cranes will be taking part in their fifth consecutive Chan tournament having featured in the 2011, 2014, 2016, and 2018 editions.
