Uganda’s men and women’s national teams filled up a number of places on the podium at the All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) Championships in South Africa at the weekend.
The interim Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) as well as the fraternity were overly delighted especially with the ladies - the She Pool Cranes - who powered to the title in the Blackball format.
She Pool Cranes matched their 2016 feat after beating Zimbabwe 13-8 in the best-of-13 final at Mpumalanga
“We are really grateful to have won this,” Uganda’s captain Faith Nganda Amina said. “We have really come a long way to win this Championship.”
Ritah Nimusiima was in a class of her own as she picked all her five frames unscathed. In the singles’ format, it is Vicky Namuyanja who stood out by finishing second.
Namuyanja scooped silver after she lost 5-4 in the final to Nicola Rossouw of South Africa. In the race for bronze, Nganda thrived after flooring another South African Flatta Moyo.
AAPA introduced a new format; the Chinese Eight-ball. And here, Rossouw once again beat another Ugandan Rukia Naiga 5-0 in the ladies singles’ final.
But the She Pool Cranes and their male counterparts – the Pool Cranes - each lost 6-3 to South Africa to finish second in the team format.
In the men’s singles, Caesar Chandiga won bronze following his 4-2 win over Zimbabwean Tendai Mubalwa.
