Napoli and Liverpool will renew their rivalry in the opening round of Group E clashes in the UEFA Champions League, set for Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday 17 September 2019. The match is one of 16 across the continent of Europe, as part of Matchday 1 this midweek.



Napoli come into the match on the back of a 2-0 home win over Sampdoria in Serie A this past weekend. Dries Mertens scored a brace for the Neapolitans in their first competitive home match of the 2019/20 season.

Liverpool are in superb form, with goals from Sadio Mane (two) and Mohamed Salah securing a 3-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League this past Saturday. The Reds boast a 100 percent record in the English top flight and currently enjoy a five-point lead at the top of the log.



In head-to-head stats, Napoli and Liverpool have met in four matches. The Reds have claimed two wins compared to one for the Neapolitans, while one game has been drawn.

The teams met in the group stage of last season’s Champions League, with Napoli winning their home match 1-0, while Liverpool won the return game at Anfield by the same score.
