The tournament is the penultimate FedEx Cup playoff event on the PGA Tour schedule and it was introduced in 2007 and it was previously known as the Western Open.

Thomas will be part of the top 70 players of the PGA Tour season who will fight for only 30 spots in the final of the #FedExCup Playoffs.

The Kentucky-born golfer, who is placed second on the FedEx Cup playoffs standings, is looking forward to the BMW Championship which will then be followed by the Tour Championship.

"The biggest difference is that usually right after the Tour Championship, at least for me," Thomas said.

"I'm looking for a release, whether it's a vacation or just put the clubs in my garage for whatever.

"I need to have some fun. I need to just relax. That's not the case this year. That release will come Monday after the U.S. Open this year.''

The 2020 BMW Championship offers an $11 million purse with a winner's share of $1.98 million.
