The Wolves are at the door for Arsenal

Arsenal’s Premier League ambitions for the 2019/20 season will be given a thorough examination by Wolverhampton Wanderers when the teams meet at the Emirates Stadium in London on Saturday 2 November, kick-off at 18:00. The match is one of 10 across England’s top flight this coming weekend.

Arsenal suffered another setback in their Premier League ambitions when they were held 2-2 at home by Crystal Palace last weekend, with the Gunners giving away a two-goal lead in the game.

Manager Unai Emery blamed VAR for the result after the game, trying to deflect attention away from a sub-par performance from his side.

“But our goal, the third goal [which was ruled out], he is not fouled. That is not a foul. Who is the person who checked that? If the referee watched that action on the TV, I am sure he would not decide that it was a foul. In the office with the TV, I don’t know who the person is who decides this,” said the Arsenal boss.

Wolves, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Newcastle United at St James’ Park, a result which somewhat halts their recent momentum and continues a trend of them getting off to slow starts in matches.

“In the second half we played well, were dominant, created chances, but we had to be more clinical. That's something to improve, but I'm happy with how we did it,” said Wolverhampton manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka

In head-to-head stats, Arsenal and Wolves have met in 97 previous matches. The Gunners have claimed 45 wins compared to 26 for the Old Gold, while 26 games have ended in draws.

Wolves took four points off Arsenal in the teams’ two Premier League meetings last season: they drew 1-1 at the Emirates in November 2018 and claimed a 3-1 home win in the return game at Molineux in April 2019, with goals from Ruben Neves, Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota.
