Parma v Internazionale

2020-21 Serie A, Round 25

4 March 2021
Stadio Ennio Tardini, Parma
Kick-off: 22:45

Relegation threatened Parma will look to upset the odds when they face Serie A title hunters Internazionale in a clash at Stadio Ennio Tardini on Thursday 4 March, kick-off at 22:45. The match is one of 10 for Round 25 of Italy’s top flight, spread over the midweek of 2-4 March 2021.

Parma find themselves deep in trouble near the foot of the table and they spurned a great chance to claim three vital points this past weekend as they drew 2-2 at Spezia. The team in yellow led 2-0 after just 25 minutes thanks to strikes from Yann Karamoh and Hernani, but ultimately shipped two goals in the second half and extended their winless run to 16 matches across all competitions.

“We would’ve certainly been in a better position than we are now. These are regrets, because both against Udinese and Spezia, I feel we deserved something more,” coach Roberto D’Aversa explained. “The performances were superior to the opposition, yet we only bring home a point. The goals were emblematic, as we made them a bit too easy for the opponents.

Internazionale come into the game on the back of a 3-0 home win over Genoa this past weekend, a result which keeps them in control of the title race. Romelu Lukaku, Matteo Darmian and Alexis Sanchez all netted as Antonio Conte’s remained four points clear at the head of the table.

“All the work is paying off, it had already started to last year, but the team is developing belief in its capabilities, understanding the situations both on and off the ball, when to be aggressive, when to hold possession,” said the Nerazzurri boss.

“We know there are 14 games to go. As I said, facing Genoa and Parma seems easy on paper, but we have to prove that we are a team who always have our ears pricked for danger, not just in the big games.”

In head-to-head stats, Parma and Inter have met in 49 matches across all competitions since 1993. The Nerazzurri have claimed 20 wins compared to 15 for the Crociati, while 14 games have been drawn.

When the teams met earlier this season, at San Siro in Milan, they played out a 2-2 draw: Parma led 2-0 thanks to a brace from Gervinho, but Inter struck back through Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic.
