Express coach George Ssimwogerere was critical of fans support as his side recorded a 2-0 win over bottom side Paidha Black Angels at the
Betway Muteesa II Stadium last week.
Ssimwogerere believes the criticism affects players’ performance with the club failing to score in half of the 12 league games they have hosted at Wankulukuku.
“We have to continue training, motivate the players. The pressure at home is very high. You can’t play well when the fans are abusing players the pressure has to go up and affects the players,” he said after the game.
He will hope that situation changes with city rivals SC Villa next up for the Red Eagles at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium.
Ssimwogerere has also been keen on putting as many points on board as possible rather than the playing style preferred by the fans that he thinks will take time to materialize.
“It will happen with time, we have spent one month now and two weeks, I’m not Jesus but I’m trying to do the best,” he said.
The Red Eagles are six points better off than they were at this stage last season when they were third from bottom.
Their 32 points tally this campaign sees them 10
th on the 16 team log and 11 ahead of Ndejje who occupy the final relegation spot.
“Good teams which play well are in which position? We need three points not showing off during games. We need three points and we achieved that and scored two goals. You want us to possess when we are losing,” he said after the game against Paidha.
Tony Odur scored the team’s opening goal against Paidha planting his penalty confidently after Disan Galilwango was fouled.
Michael Birungi then added the second with a fierce drive to seal victory.
