Ssimwogerere rues missed opportunities as Express tumble

Express were left to rue a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping from James Alitho as they lost to URA at Mandela National Stadium on Tuesday.
 
Striker-turned-defender Ronald Kigongo showed he still possesses a few of his old instincts connecting home from outside the area after goalkeeper Tony Kyamera collided with Isaac Mutanga as the latter headed away a cross 13 minutes from time.
 
"We got chances to score but we failed,” Express coach George Ssimwogerere observed after the game. “According to me my team played very good football and created chances and they were moving from defense to attack so that’s very good improvement. so I’m expecting good results in future.”
 
Striker Tony Odur mistimed his header, hitting the ground more than troubling goalkeeper Alitho while Michael Birungi had his shot saved after good work from the lively Ibrahim Kayiwa.
 
The latter then also saw his effort pushed wide by the goalkeeper who also raced out of goal to thwart Birungi as Express shaded the first half.


 
But they were pegged back in the second half before conceding but still could have salvaged a draw after good interplay resulted in Odur crossing for substitute Brian Umony. The forward controlled but saw his effort on the turn bounce narrowly wide.
 
The result, their eighth loss in 24 games, leaves them in 11th position with 29 points, nine above the relegation threatened teams but Ssimwogerere remains confident they will not be dragged into another relegation fight.
 
"Nothing to worry about because the three teams which are down we are nine points ahead of them and we are remaining with six games to play why are we scared of them? I’m not scared at all," he said.
