Spurs started their campaign with a 1-0 home loss to Everton as they carried their inconsistent form into the new season. Head coach Jose Mourinho wasn't happy with how his team played and felt they were 'lazy'.
“I didn’t like my team,” Mourinho said. “In the second half after their goal we were poor and in my opinion we were not physically strong, no intensity. The team lacks in this moment many players’ physical condition.

“The struggle started in the way we pressed – or I would say in the way we didn’t press because our pressure up front was very, very poor. I would say it was lazy pressure and when you have lazy pressure you don’t press and you let opponents build from the back. When you let almost any team in the Premier League play from the back, they are comfortable to have the ball.It disappoints me and that is where I now have to work.”
It was an equally disappointing start to the season for the Saints who fell to a 1-0 loss away to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. New signing Mohammed Salisu played no part in the loss and could make his debut this weekend while Kyle Walker-Peters is set to line-up against his former teammates following his permanent switch to the club.

Similarly, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will come to blows against his former employers while new recruit Matt Doherty is set to start at right-back once again. Moreover, Sergio Reguilón and Gareth Bale have been heavily linked with a move to North London this week as Mourinho aims to further bolster his squad.
In the corresponding fixture last season, Danny Ings found the back of the net in a 1-0 win for the hosts.
