Simona Halep will go in search of her first Wimbledon title when she faces Serena Williams in the Women’s Singles final on Centre Court on Saturday 13 July.
Halep, whose only previous Grand Slam success was in the 2018 French Open, will come up against a veteran who has claimed no less than 23 major titles in a storied career.
The Romanian earned her place in the Wimbledon final for the first time thanks to wins over Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Mihaela Buzarnescu, Victoria Azarenka, Cori Gauff, Zhang Shuai and Elina Svitolina.
Williams, meanwhile, has beaten Giulia Gatto-Monticone, Kaja Juvan, Julia Gorges, Carla Suarez Navarro, Alison Riske and Barbora Strycova at SW19 this year.
In head-to-head terms, Williams and Halep have met in 10 previous matches – the American has claimed nine wins compared to just one for the Romanian.
Their most recent match was in the round of 16 at the Australian Open earlier this year, where Williams claimed a 6-1 4-6 6-4 victory.
