Silverbacks qualifier games to happen June-July


The Uganda men's basketball team, the Silverbacks will have a chance to fight for qualification to this year's FIBA Afrobasket.
 
This comes after FIBA announced that the games missed by Uganda in February window will be played later this year.
 
In a letter sent out on March 2nd 2021, FIBA highlighted that action has been scheduled between June 15 and July 15 at a yet to be determined venue.
 
"Following the postponement of Uganda's games in application of the COVID-19 Protocol for FIBA Official National Team and Club Competitions and the advice of its Medical Commission, the pending Group E Uganda games, Uganda - Egypt, Morocco - Uganda and Cape Verde - Uganda, will be played between June 15 and July 15, 2021 at a venue to be decided."
 
Uganda were sent out of the bubble in Tunisia just hour yo their opening game of the second qualification window after returning several COVID-19 results.
 
The team was asked to leave while the rest of the games went ahead as planned.
 
There was anxiety recently when the FIBA website released a list of sixteen teams qualified for the finals with Uganda missing.
 
FUBA president Nasser Sserunjogi revealed the team will be ready to compete whenever called upon.
 
"It is good news for us and we are excited to compete again," Sserunjogi said in a press release from the federation.
 
With the finals set for August this year, the Silverbacks require a single win from three games to confirm qualification.
 
Rwanda, the hosts, Kenya and South Sudan are the other East African countries to have already booked their tickets to the finals.
