Silverbacks back to business ahead of Afrobasket Qualifiers second window

One win from the next three games could seal Uganda's qualification to this year's FIBA Afrobasket finals in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Silverbacks defeated both Morocco and Cape Verde to enhance their chances of qualification.

The second window of qualifiers is slated for February and preparations are already underway and the Silverbacks started training Monday January 4th at the Africa Bible University in Lubowa.

Having failed to start practice on December 15 as earlier planned by the national team committee, the team, under Mandy Juruni, will have time to fight for slots on the final squad.

Monday's session was the first of the several expected with four sessions planned for every week.

Small forward Joseph Ikong and guard Tonny Drilleba are the only players who missed the first session.

Sharing Youth’s forward and last season's league top scorer Caesar Kizito is the new face to join the group that worked out before the first round.

Fayed Bbale, Innocent Ocera, Ivan Muhwezi  and Peter Obleng were all dropped last time out but will have another chance to compete for places on the team.

The locally based players will eventually join the foreign based lot to make the final team tasked with sealing qualification.

Uganda has featured at the last two Afrobasket championships and will be looking to make it three in a row.
