Sigona cuts brings Kasozi closer to European Tour

Ugandan Phillip Kasozi is closing in on a place at the PGA European Tour via the Magical Kenya Open after scoring points at the ninth leg of the 2019-2020 Safari Tour Golf Series at Sigona.

The persistent Ugandan pro continues to occupy a slot of the available 10 tickets to the Kenya Open due March 12-15 at Karen Country Club after he took 18th place at Sigona in Kenya this week.

Despite carding a final round of nine-over 81 to finish with an aggregate 303, Kasozi polled 10 points to move his tally to 165.5 points on Series and he is one of the two non-Kenyans in pole to qualify with two events left.

At Sigona, he had made the cut for the fifth time on the Series after opening rounds of 76 and 74 at the par-72 course in Kikuyu.

A level-par third round on Day Three had put Kasozi tenth, tied with John Karichu but the change in his swing came to bite him at the finish, dropping eight places in the process.

“I sprained myself. I was about to withdraw after six holes. So I decided to finish in pain. But I played so bad, I don’t know how it all happened.”

Kenyan Greg Snow now leads the Series after winning his third straight tournament on the Series with a last round of two-under 70 to finish on 280, winning by four shots.
