She Cranes skipper Peace Proscovia extends stay with Sunshine Coast Lightning

She Cranes captain Peace Proscovia has re-signed with Australian side Sunshine Coast Lightning ahead of 2021 season.

Having joined the club in 2018, the Ugandan will now have another year with the Suncorp Super Netball club.

“It is with great honour that I sign on with Lightning for another year, playing on the Sunshine Coast has given me the opportunity to learn so much and to improve my netball,” Proscovia told the club website after signing her new contract.

In the recently concluded season, Proscovia scored 134 goals and had an efficiency of 86%.

The club continues to trust Uganda's first netball export despite he reduced time on court.

“I feel privileged to play alongside such a supportive team and cannot wait to see what next year presents,” she added.

Proscovia was not the only African player to get a new contract with the team, South African defender Phumza Maweni also got a one year extension.

“Peace and Phumza have taken real strides since joining our Club, embracing the professionalism and lift in standards required to thrive in the competition,” team head coach Kylee Byrne said of the duo.

“Now that they have that solid foundation and understanding, I’m excited to see how they can contribute further next season both on and off court.

“We understand that the decision to live away from your family – particularly after a season like 2020 – is a massive sacrifice and we are so grateful to both players for remaining part of the Lightning family.”

Proscovia led the She Cranes to back to back Africa Cup titles in 2017 and 2018.  She has also led the team the last two World Cup appearances.
