She Cranes set for Spar Proteas test

It is two years since the national netball team She Cranes featured in a test match.
The last such game for the She Cranes was in 2018 when they lost all three games to the England Roses as the two teams prepared for the Commonwealth Games.
The lull without first-class netball has consequently been one of the contributing factors as the team dropped a place to seventh in the world standings.
They will consequently be targeting to improve in that regard after confirmation of a three-match test series against South Africa, the team that replaced them as African champions.
“Unlike us, South Africa has been active but we hope to put up outstanding performances through our locally-based players,” Anek is quoted having told the Daily Monitor.
The Spar Proteas according to Anek’s counterpart Cecilia Molokwane, are similarly looking forward to the test series according to reports from a press conference held on Wednesday.
“After our success against world number five Malawi in Sun City earlier this month, we want to show that we are indeed number one in Africa," Dorette Badenhorst, the Proteas Head Coach is quoted having said on Supersport.
"It is always good for us as a team to be on the court now more than ever because of the Covid disruptions we endured this year.
"The Test series against Malawi and Uganda are very important for ranking purposes.
"Any match against a team that is within 50 points on the rankings table can earn us a lot of points."
"That is any team from world number two, New Zealand, to the tenth-ranked team, Trinidad and Tobago, “
The series according to South Africa’s netball federation will also include a four-team matchup involving the Uganda under 21 team and  Spar Baby Proteas (Under 21s), who both will play in the  2021 Netball Youth Championships later in the year.
The other teams are the President’s XII, and Namibia will also play in this series even though the focus will be on Proteas and Uganda She Cranes.
The Under-21 global showpiece will be staged in Fiji in December next year following its postponement from July because of Covid 19.
