Serie A Weekend Preview

Following the conclusion of the newly-formed UEFA Nations League this past week, football fans across the globe can turn their attention back to domestic duties. Italy’s Serie A returns with some tantalising treats this weekend with Lazio’s battle against AC Milan headlining the compliment of fixtures.

UDINESE VS ROMA – STADIO FRIULI

Udinese head into this encounter without a win in any of their last seven matches in Italy’s top tier – a run which has seen the Bianconeri Friuliani slide down into 17th place on the table, only being kept of the relegation zone due to a superior goal-difference.

Roma are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions since a shock 2-0 home defeat to SPAL last month and will be looking to extend that run with fixtures against Real Madrid and Inter Milan looming on the horizon for L Giallorossi.

Udinese have lost 10 of their last 11 league games against Roma since they last tasted victory against them back in October 2012. The corresponding fixture last season ended 2-0 to the visitors courtesy of second-half goals from Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti.

INTER MILAN VS FROSINONE – SAN SIRO

Two teams with contrasting fortunes at the minute go head-to-head at the iconic San Siro Stadium on Saturday. Internazionale saw their seven-game winning streak come to an abrupt end when they were outclassed 4-1 by Atalanta before the international break.

Frosinone, in just their second-ever season in Serie A, find themselves just one place off the foot of the table following a disappointing run of just one win from their first 12 games in the division although they are currently unbeaten in their last four matches (1 win; 3 draws) heading into this encounter.

Mauro Icardi scored both home and away for Inter in wins over Frosinone last season and will be looking to repeat his heroics once again on Saturday. The Argentinian has found the back of the net four times in his last three appearances for Inter this season.

LAZIO VS AC MILAN – STADIO OLIMPICO

The standout fixture in Serie A this weekend takes place at the famous Olympic Stadium in the capital, Rome, between two giants of the division. Lazio and AC Milan have a long rich history between them, sharing 20 top-flight league titles as well as 11 Coppa Italia’s between them.

Currently separated by just one point and one place on the log, should surely add extra-spice to an already fiery encounter on Sunday. L Biancocelesti have won two and drawn one in all competitions since being overturned 3-0 by Milan’s cross-town rivals Inter last month while AC on the other hand saw their four-game unbeaten run come to an end at home against league leaders Juventus before the international break.

The corresponding fixture last season ended 4-1 to the hosts as Ciro Immobile bagged a stunning hat-trick in the space of 10 minutes either side of half-time for Lazio’s first league win in their last five attempts against the Rossoneri.
