Southampton will be out to claim the scalp of Arsenal when the teams meet in a Premier League clash at St Mary’s Stadium on Thursday 25 June 2020. The match is one of five spread from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 June, as the English continues its return from a three-month pandemic-enforced absence.

Southampton marked their return to action with an impressive 3-0 away win at Norwich City last Friday, a result (secured by goals from Danny Ings, Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond) which has all but secured survival for the south coast club.

"We showed a very committed and a good organised performance. It was a deserved win. We've been working hard the last few weeks to push again for 90 minutes, without our fans. Because normally they help us to win games but we tried to be sharp without them,” said Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The restart has been a nightmare for Arsenal, with the London side suffering back-to-back 3-0 and 2-1 defeats away to Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively. Their hopes of sneaking in the back door for European qualification now hang by a thread.

“A very difficult one to take," said manager Mikel Arteta after the weekend loss to the Seagulls. "It is unacceptable in the way we lost the game. The fact we missed so many chances, the fact we gave them a goal and we did not compete for the second goal."

In head-to-head stats, Southampton and Arsenal have met in 98 matches across all competitions. The Gunners have claimed 50 wins compared to 21 for the Saints, while 27 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in November 2019. Alexandre Lacazette scored both goals for Arsenal – including a last-minute equaliser – while Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse netted for Southampton.
