Rugby Cranes in same place as last year

Before the Rugby Africa Gold Cup kicked off in June, Uganda was ranked third in the group having finished in the same position last year.
Three wins, a draw and a loss in the recently concluded campaign have ensured the Rugby Cranes maintain the same slot and confirm participation in next year's Rugby World Cup Qualifiers.
Having finished third, level on 16 points with second placed Kenya, the Cranes will take the results and hope for an even better show next year in the fight for a ticket to their first ever world cup appearance.

The key thing for players now, according to assistant coach Robert Seguya, is to keep in shape between now and next year's Gold Cup.
“The players have to work hard even when at their clubs. There's still a lot of work to be done," Seguya revealed.
“Some of these players don’t practice much but they get playing time and that is not the case with the national team," the former Rugby Cranes star said.
The former Toyota Buffaloes and Hima Cement Heathens tactician now hopes that coaches at various clubs manage to keep the players fit and well-conditioned for next year.

For most of the players, the National 7s season, which kicks off on Saturday, will provide a platform for them to stay active before the Uganda Cup and national league.
The Cranes team of 2017 brought together a mixture of the youngsters and the tried and tested seniors.
Half backs Ivan Kirabo, Ivan Magomu and Aaron Ofoyrwoth are some of the rookies to have impressed many throughout the campaign while Mathias Ochwo and Alex Mubiru rolled back the years to push the team forward.
