Os Celestes themselves have improved in form of late and prepare for Real's visit on a three game unbeaten run in the league. Celta were held to a 0-0 draw by Athletic Bilbao last time out, with the result having moved them 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Los Blancos kept their title hopes alive with a 2-1 comeback win over Elche. Karim Benzema emerged as the defending champions' hero once more, scoring twice in the second-half to secure all three points for the Madrid giants.

It was not the first time Real required a 'late show' to earn valuable points in recent weeks and albeit praising his team following their latest last-gasp victory, Zinedine Zidane would prefer his side to win matches in a more 'calmer' way.

"I liked our character but I'd rather we scored a little earlier," Zidane told reporters.

"I prefer games that are a bit calmer."

He added: "This win is very positive for us, it was vital we kept up picking points for our league campaign and also to prepare for Tuesday's [Uefa Champions League] game," he said.

"We're a team with character, we're alive in two competitions and we're going to keep fighting hard and keep believing in ourselves."

Real head into the weekend six points adrift of Atletico and two behind second-placed Barcelona.

Los Blancos beat Celta 2-0 in the Spanish capital earlier this season on the back of goals from Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio.
