Ranking the NBA MVP's from the last 10 years

The National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade is one of the league's most prestigious honours.

We have seen outstanding players scoop the award in the last decade from Derrick Rose in 2010 to the reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and everyone in between.

We ranked the league's MVP's from the last 10 years:

7. Derrick Rose (2010/11 season)

The point guard became the youngest player to ever win the award at the age of 22 after recording 2000 points and 600 assists in a single season while playing for the Chicago Bulls.

Rose, who is now with the Detroit Pistons, joined basketball icon Michael Jordan as the only players to receive the award in Bulls history.

6. Giannis Antetokounmpo (2019/20)

The power forward enjoyed his best campaign in the NBA last season - leading Milwaukee Bucks to a 60 win season as he walked away with the accolade.

Antetokounmpo's produced a career high 27.7 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, the Greek player is the fifth player born outside of the United States of America (USA) to win the NBA MVP award.

“MVP is not about stats and numbers, and obviously James Harden had unbelievable numbers and Paul George also, but obviously it’s about winning,” Antetokounmpo said on Ekathimerini.com.

“We created great habits throughout the season and were able to stick by them, and that’s why we were able to have a chance in every single game we played and were able to win 60 games.”

5. James Harden (2017/18 season)

The shooting guard scooped the accolade after becoming the first player to ever average 10 free throws and 10 three-point attempts per game in a single season.

Harden, who has been the Houston Rockets since 2012, also became the third player in franchise history to receive the award, joining Moses Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon.

4. Russell Westbrook (2016/17)

The point guard was named MVP of the season after becoming one of two players in NBA history to average a triple-double for a season, along with Oscar Roberston, who did it 58 years ago.

Westbrook, who is now with the Houston Rockets, played an instrumental role in helping Oklahoma City Thunder reach the NBA Playoffs during the 2016/17 season.

3. Kevin Durant (2013/14)

The small forward became one of the two players in the league’s history, who have averaged 32 points per game, shot 50% from the field and at least 35% from deep - the other being Michael Jordan.

Durant was deservedly voted the MVP after helping Oklahoma City Thunder finish the season with 59 wins. He has since played for Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.

"My dream was to become a rec league coach. That’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to stay home and help the kids out and be a coach," Durant said on Oklahoman.com.

"I love basketball so much and I love playing it. I just never thought I would make it to college, the NBA or stand up here today in front of you guy and be the NBA MVP. It’s just a surreal feeling."

2. Stephen Curry (2014/15 & 2015/16)

The point guard is widely regarded as the greatest shooter in NBA history having been named the MVP twice while playing for his current team, the Golden State Warriors.

Curry posted averages of 23.8 points, 7.7 assists and 2 steals per game during the 2014/15 season and in the following term, he became the first player since Michael Jordan in the 1989/90 season to score 118 points in his team's first three games.

1. LeBron James  (2011/12 & 2012/13)

The small forward is considered by some as the greatest basketball player of all time, having won four MVP accolades including two between 2012 and 2013 while playing for the Miami Heat.

James, who is now with the Los Angeles Lakers, remains the only player in NBA history to shoot 55% from the field while averaging 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game.
